I went to a chiropractor who also did therapy for my bad rotator cuff, but I dont know if mine was torn or not; I just had excruciating pain and almost no mobility. I think it would be good to check all your options before choosing surgery.

Absolutely. keep in mind---an assessment of your shoulder function and cuff strength by an Orthopaedist with expertise in shoulder might be very helpful in making a diagnosis. Exam often reveals alot, and in most cases, even small tears unassociated with weakness can be effectively treated without proceeding to surgery--at least at the outset. PT can often help.
